Getting there
- Take the E40 towards Leuven, then follow signs for Ličge.
- As soon as they appear, follow signs for Bastogne and Houffalize.
Houffalize is a popular mtb destination, by many considered the Mekka of Belgian mountain biking. The last weekend of May every year it houses the Mountain Bike World Cup. Us bigM'ers tend to go there for at least that weekend, to enjoy the trails, but also to enjoy the fantastic ambiance of many bikers and their beloved bikes, the usual bike exposition and the possibility to ride the World Cup trail.
Permanent trails number 1 through 6 interconnect and overlap, and cover the very hilly distances 15, 25, 35, 35, 30 and 12 km (yellow/blue/red/red/blue/green markers), consisting of in total 152 km. All trails go through Houffalize centre.
The 1:25,000-scale map can be bought from local bike shop Houffa Bike, which also offers bike hiring and bike activity packages.
