Hoeilaart
I tend to call this a Brussels mountain bike loop, but Forêt de Soignes covers a huuge surface and officially the starting point is Hoeilaart, more convenient for those living further south than centrally in Brussels.
But still ... WOOhAA! Finally, we have our own mountain bike loop in forest Forêt de Soignes!
The blue Bloso signs start from the sports centre in Hoeilaart (corner of Koldamstraat and A. Biesmanslaan) where you can also find some parking space (and possibly showers, but no bike wash) for your convenience. The signs then guide you (on tarmac) past bike shop Filipsport (tempting you to pop in, of course, how shrewd of Filip!) and further past the Groenendahl train station before finally going off-road.
The 27k-long mountain bike loop was inaugurated on October 10th, 2004, and we have to say we are proud of it! It remains to see if trail maintenance will help to keep it that way, but the loop contains some of the best dirt paths we have managed to find out there plus some new singletrack sections that have been made available. So try it out! Until map has been updated on appropriate web sites promoting it, click here.
Should showers and a bike shop visit not be of top priority, we would recommend parking your car at the Groenendahl train station, probably cutting the loop to something like 25k.
TIP! If you follow the bike lane going east past the sports centre you can hook up with the Overijse trails!
